Managing O&M Manuals
The management of an O&M Manual begins at design stage not when the project is nearly finished.
Establishing the structure, responsibilities and information requirements early allows design intent, technical submissions, manufacturers’ data, commissioning records, drawings and certification is captured progressively as the project develops.
Missing information is identified while there is still time to obtain it, rather than becoming somebody else’s problem at handover.
By Practical Completion, the O&M Manual is not a hurried collection of documents assembled simply to satisfy a contractual requirement.
It will be a complete, accurate and usable record of the building as actually constructed, ready for the people who will operate and maintain it from Day One.
Good O&M management turns handover from a last-minute paperwork exercise into a controlled process of delivering knowledge.
From Design to Practical Completion.
